Pressures on Great Yarmouth's Food Bank have swelled to the point that the service has run out of one of its most commonly donated items - tins of baked beans.

The Food Bank, which has seen significant increases in demand the past few months, has issued an urgent appeal for donations, after running out of the popular product.

Liz Townson, one of the trustees, said: 'We used to have a baked bean mountain, so the fact that we have run out shows just how much we have had to give out recently.

'Whenever we run out of beans we really know we are struggling.'

The service operates out of Gorleston Baptist Church on Lowestoft Road between 9am and 12pm on Mondays and Thursday, and it is during these times that donations can be made.

She added: 'While we need beans, we will of course welcome any tinned foods we can take - we won't turn anything away.

'People can donate at the church while the Food Bank is open - or by contacting me through the Food Bank's Facebook page.'
