A man who was assaulted outside a Great Yarmouth pub at the weekend has died in hospital.

Ian Church, 40, of Great Yarmouth died at the James Paget hospital last night.

Police were called to reports of an assault outside the Bricklayers Arms pub on Nelson Road Central at 1.55am on Saturday.

A Norfolk Constabulary spokesman said officers had recovered a machete from the scene and were carrying out further investigations.

Todd Esherwood, 24, of Saxon Road, Great Yarmouth and 29-year-old Tony Smith, of Sidney Close, Great Yarmouth, were charged in connection with the incident and appeared before magistrates this morning (Tuesday, May 8).

They have been remanded to police custody where they will face further questioning by the Joint Major Investigation Team in connection with the victim's death.

A third man arrested in connection with the incident, a 43-year-old, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A post mortem on the body will be held later this afternoon.
