A man arrested following a three-hour siege in a mid-Norfolk field yesterday has been bailed pending further police enquiries.

The 47-year-old, from the North Walsham area, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill.

The incident started when police were called to an address in Ridlington, near the North Walsham, at 9.26am because of concerns for the safety of a man at the property, which was empty when police arrived.

Police said further enquiries were made, and armed police, dogs, a helicopter, firefighters and paramedics went to the field more than 20 miles away in Themelthorpe, between Reepham and Foulsham, at about noon.

Police said no weapons were involved in the siege, which ended with a man's arrest at 3pm.
