Firefighters were again called out to Fritton Wood today, after having fought two blazes at the scenic Norfolk wood popular with families and dog walkers yesterday (August 14).

A pair of fire engines from Great Yarmouth and a water carrier from Hethersett attended to a fire in the open, using hand appliances to put it out.

They were on scene at 10.04am and the incident stopped at 10.31am. Early indications are it was a small grass fire and the cause is unclear.

The wood, off the A143 outside Great Yarmouth, was the scene of two fires in the space of two hours yesterday.

The first fire at 11.45am is thought by police to have been a campfire that was left smouldering and developed into a fire. A Norfolk Fire and Rescue spokesman referred to it as a small grass fire.

Engines from Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and a water carrier from Hethersett attended and hand appliances were used to extinguish. The fire was put out by 12.08pm.

Fewer than two hours later fire crews were again called to the wood to tackle a fire.

At 1.55pm two engines from Gorleston and Great Yarmouth, the water carrier from Hethersett and a Unimog all terrain vehicle from Suffolk attended to a fire in forestry and used hose reel jets.

The fire was out by 2.27pm.
