The A47 is due to re-open soon after the recovery of two crashed vehicles and a broken-down lorry at Narborough, near Swaffham.

The initial accident, which happened shortly after 10am this morning, created tailbacks reaching as far as the A1122 Swaffham Road junction and East Walton Road in Narborough.

Recovery teams had retrieved the damaged vehicles, including one overturned car, by midday.

But the backlog of traffic remained due to a separate incident on the same stretch of road, as a broken-down lorry blocked the carriageway. Despite diversions and a single-lane contra-flow system, traffic slowed to a virtual standstill.

Recovery teams were back on the scene at 2pm and a police spokesman said the road was expected to re-open 'within minutes'.
