Fire and ambulance crews, including the air ambulance were called to the incident involving a black Fiat Punto and a blue Toyota MR2 on the A148 between King's Lynn and Hillington, just after 7.30am.
A woman, aged 19, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn with serious life threatening head injuries but was no longer being treated as in a critical condition by 5pm.
A man, aged 48, was taken to the same hospital with head and back injuries after being cut from his car by fire fighters and was last night under observation.
The road, the main road between King's Lynn and Fakenham, was blocked off from the Knight's Hill roundabout to the A148 junction with the A1440 Church Road until 12.50pm while the road was cleared.
