Two people were rescued from their vehicles in a collision on Newmarket Road on Sunday, just feet from where a cyclist suffered fatal injuries on Friday.

The collision, which is believed to have involved two cars, happened at the crossroads with Leopold Road and Eaton Road at about 10.30am.

Emergency crews including three fire engines attended the scene, with traffic backed up for about two hours.

Congestion was particularly bad in the Eaton-bound lane, with severe tailbacks on the roundabout and its approach roads until police cleared the scene at 12.30pm.

Those involved in the collision are not understood to have suffered serious injuries.

Just after 7am on Friday, a 20-year-old cyclist collided with a lorry near the junction with Upton Road and later died of his serious head injuries at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
