Two fires have been extinguished by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service in Norwich.

The fires were reported within minutes of each other with one grass fire in Upper St Giles Street at 7.04pm and one bush fire on Earlham Green Lane at 7.08pm.

One engine from Carrow extinguished the Upper St Giles Street fire, in the city centre, with hand appliances, but a crew from Earlham put out the Earlham Green Lane fire with hose reel jets.

The public are being urged to take extra after the tinderbox conditions from the on-going heatwave have left firefighters tackling hundreds of wildfires.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service have asked people to make an extra effort to avoid flammable situations.

Some recommendations to help avoid outdoor fires include never throwing cigarette ends out of car windows and not leaving bottle of glass in woodlands, as sunlight shining through glass can start a fire.
