Two people have been arrested after a flat fire in Lowestoft in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 36-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both from Lowestoft, have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger lives, after the fire in Normanston Drive.

The 19-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of assault. Both have been released on bail until April 20.

Two fire engines from Lowestoft South and one from North Lowestoft were called to the blaze at a first floor flat at around 12.50am.

A 51-year-old woman suffered burns and smoke inhalation and is currently being treated at the Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford. A 49-year-old woman was also treated at the scene for minor burns.
