Norfolk weathergirl Becky Mantin was last night under observation in hospital after suffering head injuries in a freak surfing accident.

The 25-year-old presenter, who began her career at Anglia television and also wrote for EDP Norfolk magazine, underwent brain scans on Monday night after being admitted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Yesterday she was recovering and, although a hospital spokesman described her condition as “stable”, she had not recovered sufficiently to speak about her ordeal.

Becky, famous for her bubbly on screen demeanour, cracked the back of her head open after colliding with another surfer in Cornwall on June 7 and had to be pulled from the water by a friend. She was treated in a nearby hospital immediately after the accident and was discharged with concussion and slight memory loss.

She then went to stay with her parents Wendy and Richard in Norwich where she collapsed. It is understood she was suffering 12-hour migraines and at times has experienced temporary paralysis in parts of her body.

Last night former colleagues at Anglia wished her a swift recovery. Speaking on the shows evening bulletin, presenter Natalie Gray said: “We're all thinking of you Becky hope you feel better soon.”

A spokesman for ITV, where she now works, confirmed she has been signed off work. She said: “We expect Becky back in a few weeks when she has been given the all clear.”

Becky shot to fame as Anglia's weather presented. She gained a job presenting the national weather for ITV alongside her work with Anglia in 2005 and left Anglia completely in February 2006 after four years.

Since leaving, Becky has regular presented national weather reports as well as presenting on This Morning and reality show I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

Although she is now based in London she still has a home in Norfolk.
