Tributes have been paid to a community stalwart who played a key role in village life and helped hundreds of pupils reach their school safely.
Bradwell resident Maurice Johnson has died at the age of 84.
Mr Johnson had spent the last 18 years as the lollipop man on Mill Lane for a village primary school.
As a tribute to him parents of children he had safely guided across the road held a balloon release on Wednesday.
Mr Johnson moved to Bradwell in 1969 and he and his wife Ellen soon embraced village life and community activities.
They ran the weekly discos in the village hall, where Mr Johnson would offer advice to young people with problems.
Mr Johnson helped to organise village fetes, sponsored walks, carnival floats and dances.
He was chairman of Bradwell's community council, sat on the parish council and was a school governor and had run as borough councillor for Labour.
Up until the end of last year he remained active at the Mill Lane Community Centre.
He was born in 1932 in Northumberland and had served his National Service at RAF Marham before living in Gorleston.
Among his jobs were being a bus conductor in Norwich and a sales representative for Huntley and Palmers.
He was a stationary sales representative for Paperclip before he suffered a heart attack at the age of 59 - leading him to retire early aged 63.
He met his future wife at the Norwood Rooms in Norwich and they married in April 1955.
They had four children, Gary, Christine, Michelle and Marisa.
His wife died in 2010 and his family said being a lollipop man gave him a purpose in life as he grieved for her.
There are 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren children.
His daughter Marisa Fox, 49, said her father was passionate about being principled and just and believed in socialism and living in a world of peace. He enjoyed fell walking with his wife.
Mrs Fox said: 'We hope people in the village will remember him as being a selfless person who gave much of his life and soul to the community in order to bring enjoyment and excellent facilities to the parish.'
His funeral service is at Bradwell church on June 16 at 2pm.
