A black leather handbag containing precious photographs, cash and TVs were stolen in a Great Yarmouth burglary.

It happened between 11.40pm and 11.50pm on Thursday, January 5 when burglars forced open the back door of a house in Walpole Road.

The burglar searched through drawers in a bedroom, disturbing the elderly resident who was asleep at the time.

The 83-year-old woman woke to find a man in the room and shouted prompting the burglar, who is described as white, with dark hair and about 6ft tall, to run from the scene.

The woman was not injured but has been left badly shaken following the incident.

Her black leather handbag, which was stolen, contained treasured photographs of her late husband and police would like to hear from anyone who may have come across a discarded handbag.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time stated.
