Overnight resurfacing work to improve the A47 near King's Lynn starts tonight.
The work will take place between Fair Green, to the east of the town, and the Hardwick Road roundabout and also includes renewing road markings and studs to improve safety.
The road will be closed in both directions for eight nights, completing at 6am on April 11, weather permitting.
Highways Agency project manager Martin Oliver said: 'This work will improve the road surface and so make journeys better for road users. We have to close the road in order to carry out this work safely and in the quickest possible time. To keep disruptions to a minimum, this will only be done at night when traffic flows are lightest.'
The closures take place from 8pm to 6am Monday to Friday nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place.
Eastbound A47 traffic will be diverted via the A10, the A134 and the A1122, while westbound traffic will be diverted via the A1122 and the A10.
Local traffic will be diverted as follows: westbound traffic will be diverted through Fair Green via Station Road and Hill Road to the A47; eastbound traffic will be diverted through North Runcton via the A10 to the A47.
