A road has re-opened after a lorry partially overturned when it hit a railway bridge at North Walsham this morning.
The articulated truck heading towards town along the Cromer Road tipped into the brickwork under the bridge around 9am, blocking the road in both directions and halting rail services.
PC Iain Braybrook said the driver was unhurt in the crash, and the quick thinking of a neighbour who placed a water butt under a leaking diesel tank had helped prevent the incident becoming worse.
Recovery of the truck was carried out using winches and road was re-opened at about 1.30pm.
A spokesman for Network Rail said the line reopened at 11.20am, and bus shuttles had been running for about an hour.
They had been told by the fire service that a structural examination of the bridge was required. It was reopened after checks revealed it was safe.
