Three members of East Anglia Federation of Townswomens Guilds got through to the National Quiz Final in Birmingham and came 7th out of 12 teams.

We were sorry to hear of the death of Iris Cannell, aged 103, who had been very active in the Federation and a leading light in Catton Guild.

Several members are going to the National AGM in Brighton in June and including it in a short holiday. Any lady interested in hearing more about TG, please phone me on (01603) 429518 or email vanjohn@hotmail.co.uk. I will be pleased to help you.

Eaton Guild, which meets in St Andrew's Church Hall at 2.30pm on the 3rd Tuesday each month, will be hearing a very interesting talk by Mrs P. Scrivens on June 19th, entitled 'Lady Lord Mayors of Norwich'. Details from Hilary Chaston. Tel: 455232.

At their May meeting, Thorpe Afternoon TG had a talk with slides by Christina Brailsford, explaining the history of spring flowers. Daffodils were first used at funerals and for medicinal purposes and thought to help to heal burns and scalds. Tulips originated as an Asian wild flower and was cultivated by the Turks as early as 1000AD.

They were imported into Holland in the 16th century and became so popular that gardens were raided and bulbs stolen on a regular basis. Our competition was entitled 'A Spring Flower, and won by Janet with a Peony, runner-up was Muriel with a Tulip. We meet in the Heartsease Lane Methodist Church Hall on the 1st Thursday each month at 2.15pm. Look forward to meeting you.

Catton Afternoon Guild heard a very interesting talk by Caroline Beer about 'Women in the National Trust'. These included Beatrix Potter, Vita Sackville-West and Octavia Hill, all who helped to found the organisation.

She was thanked for a very informative and amusing talk by Joan Howden. Sixteen members recently enjoyed a Spring Lunch at the Blue Boar PH and plans are being made for a visit to a RHS garden (with a cream tea!) later in the summer. Heather Gardiner won the competition for a spring item and Margaret Wallis received a card for her 91st birthday. Next month, we will hear a talk entitled 'The History of the Jews in Norwich'.

We meet in the Lecture Room at Rosebery Road Church at 2.30pm on the 2nd Monday each month and will be pleased to receive visitors.

Lakenham Evening TG were visited in May by David Morton, who gave could have been a dry talk about the Tower of London, into an interesting account, showing pictures and photographs to illustrate his tales. We were left inspired to visit the Tower again and no bad dreams about 'off with her head'! There followed a short business meeting, including a report on a successful outing to Langham Glass and feedback from the Federation AGM. We meet in St Albans Church Hall, Lakenham. We always welcome visitors to our meetings, so come along and give us a try.

At the May meeting of Central Morning TG, the speaker was Dr V.Rao, who showed pictures of the Leprosy Hospital in India and the Welfare Clinic set up by her and her husband. This was very enjoyable and informative and she was thanked by Christine Glennon.

The competition was won by Pat Wooldridge, with Rosemary Wain second. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 13th June at 10.30am when our speaker will be Mrs Anne May and her subject will be 'Fans'. Any ladies who are interested in coming along to our meetings, we meet in the Lounge at Chapel Field Road Methodist Church Hall on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
