Three fire crews were called to the scene of the blaze at the building on Pinbush Road.

Two crews from Lowestoft South were called at 1.50pm, and they soon requested assistance from Lowestoft North.

With the blaze 'contained inside one room at the premises,' according to a brigade spokesman, 15 firefighters quickly put out the flames.

The building, measuring 10m by 15m, which was 'involved in fire,' is believed to have contained four cars, tanks of fuel and gas cylinders.

A police spokesman said: 'Officers have assisted with traffic control at the scene, and at 2.29pm the fire was out. There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances at the moment.'Witnesses described seeing a plume of thick black smoke, which was visible across the skyline. Chris Arlow was in Kirkley when he saw 'lots of billowing black smoke.'

Returning to his business premises nearby, Mr Arlow added: 'There was a lot of heat there.'
