Thousands of people have added their support to a pioneering Norfolk-born carbon reduction campaign at agricultural shows across the region. The UEA-based CRed carbon reduction campaign and partners were able to sign up 3,457 people to its ambitious scheme - saving an estimated 2774 tonnes of the greenhouse gas or enough to fill 1,287 hot air balloons.

Events including the Royal Norfolk Show, the Suffolk Show and East of England Show were staffed with pledges ranging from switching unused appliances off to more sophisticated measures, such as fitting solar panels.

CRed's Marcus Armes said: “We are delighted at the public response to our efforts to make people more aware of the need for action on climate change.

“Importantly people demonstrated that they were prepared to save energy in their homes, workplaces and everyday lives by making specific pledges.

“CRed would like to thank Anglia Farmers, EEDA and the organisers of the Suffolk Show, East of England Show and the Royal Norfolk Show for their fabulous support. Certainly we look forward to working with all these organisations in the future.”
