A new winter weather homeless provision for Lowestoft and Waveney begins this week.
The Waveney-wide Thin Ice Project – a community response to the winter homelessness crisis in Lowestoft and the surrounding areas – is a new approach to supporting those that are most vulnerable during the winter months.
The new project sees Access Community Trust, Lowestoft Rising, Waveney District Council's housing team and Lowestoft Foodbank joining forces to provide a night shelter facility every night between Thursday, November 1 and February 28.
The provision of emergency accommodation and specialist support is available for those that find themselves homeless or vulnerable over the winter months. An Access Community Trust spokesman said: 'Our aim is to ensure that no one dies on the streets during severe weather and to ensure that every effort is made to engage individuals with support services during the winter months.'
