As the first inklings of spring start to reach the streets of Norwich, city venues ready themselves for another month of musical mayhem. Reporter Alex Flood picks out the best of the bunch.

• Yellowman – Norwich Arts Centre (March 7)

Jamaican, rub-a-dub reggae king, Yellowman (born Winston Foster), came to prominence in the 1980s with a number of singles, including 'Zungguzungguguzungguzeng', and has been touring his electric live show ever since. Inventive, amusing lyrics and fast-paced, dancehall romps have typified his music, and although 2003 effort, New York, was Foster's last record released under the Yellowman moniker, the Caribbean DJ is still at the very top of his game.

• Bombay Bicycle Club – UEA LCR (March 9)

One of the biggest indie-rock bands in Britain, Bombay Bicycle Club, packed their bags and headed out to India last year, searching for inspiration for their recently released fourth album, So Long, See You Tomorrow. The record, released 3 February on Island Records, was a huge commercial and critical success, snagging the top spot on the UK albums chart in its first week of release. A regular at UEA's LCR, the London lads stage a scintillating live show, jam packed with spine-wrenching guitar riffs and anthemic chorus sing-a-longs.

• Haim – UEA LCR (March 14)

Having had to reschedule this gig from its original date of December 4, due to Danielle Haim coming down with a chest infection, the LA sisters will be looking to make up for lost time when they come to the LCR in March. Progenitors of blues-infused pop-rock a la Fleetwood Mac, Haim have garnered huge support from all areas of the country, from Radio One teen addicts to twenty-something urban hipster. Definitely a gig for all ages.

• Maximo Park – Waterfront (March 17)

Geordie alternative rock merchants, Maximo Park, released fifth album, Too Much Information, earlier this year in February, and subsequently embarked upon a world tour which brings them to Norwich in March. Known for their intimate and emotionally charged performances, the Warp Records stalwarts are set to include covers from The Fall, Leonard Cohen and Mazzy Star in their expanded setlist.

• Metronomy – UEA LCR (March 26)

After the huge success of their last album The English Riviera and subsequent tour, the new-wave, electro-pop group from London, Metronomy, took an indefinite hiatus. Returning with Love Letters in March, the four-piece embark on another British tour in support.

• Polar Bear – Norwich Arts Centre (March 29)

Led by drummer Seb Rochford, Polar Bear are a British experimental jazz band from London. Remarkably nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005 for second album Held on the Tips of Fingers, Polar Bear return to Norwich in support of new album In Each and Every One, due March 24th. Inspiring instrumentally, Polar Bear will soothe souls and enthral endlessly with a sound combining cool jazz, funk, dance and electronica.
