The Norwich Players' latest show at the Maddermarket Theatre opens later this month.
The Alchemist by Shakespeare's contemporary Ben Jonson will be performed at the city venue from June 21 to 30.
Jonson's farce tells the story of a trio of confidence tricksters who lure their greedy and gullible victims to a empty London house.
Director George Norton said: 'Jonson's much nastier and far funnier than Shakespeare. I think of him as a Jacobean punk playwright, an angry satirist - but his stagecraft is extraordinary and his narrative construction simply perfect.'
The Alchemist runs at the Maddermarket Theatre from Thursday, June 21 to Saturday, June 30, with performances nightly at 7.30pm, plus a matinee at 2.30pm on June 30. There is no performance on Sunday, June 24.
Tickets cost 12, 10 and 8, and can be bought from the Maddermarket Theatre, in St John's Alley, Norwich, online at www.maddermarket.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01603 620917.
