Little Emily Grace Mann, pictured, arrived into the world at 01.38am and was the first baby to be born at the hospital in the early hours of New Year's Day.

She weighed a healthy 7lb 8oz.

Proud mum, Elizabeth Wood, 30, of Sutton Crosses, in Long Sutton, Lincs., said: 'We were expecting Emily to arrive around the new year and she's here on time.

'At one point we weren't sure if Emily would be the first to arrive in 2016, or another little baby who was also on its way - but she was here first in the end.'

Emily spent most of yesterday sleeping in her cot at the Castle Acre Ward with her mum, and dad, James Mann, 32, close by. She is the couple's first child.

Poppy Sophia Mansfield was also among the hospital's six arrivals on New Year's Day. She was born at around 6am and weighed 6lb 14.5oz.

Mum Kristyna Mansfield, from Wisbech,said Poppy was soon going to be introduced to her big brother Benjamin, 13 and sister Riana, 9.
