Sixty years ago this weekend the EDP printed a leader column in Russian before a visit by two Soviet leaders to RAF Marham.
Soviet leader Nikita Kruschev and Premier of the Soviet Union Marshal Nikolai Bulganin visited RAF Marham as part of their tour of Britain in April 1956.
The EDP prepared for the visit in attention-grabbing fashion, which made headlines of its own. For the first (and only) time in history, its leader column was written in Russian, in the form of an open letter to the two leaders.
The letter recalled Kruschev's famous 'Secret Speech', addressed the different values of the two nations and concluded: 'On your shoulders rests a prodigious responsibility but also a profound opportunity for the furtherance of peace.'
