Revealed: The 10 most dangerous junctions in Norwich

The Norfolk County Council data, revealed under a Freedom of Information request, shows the junctions and roundabouts where the most crashes, resulting in injury, happened over the last two years.

The site with the highest number was the Earlham Fiveways roundabout, where eight people were injured in the last two years.

The second highest was Ketts Hill roundabout, with seven injuries over the two years.

The remaining eight all saw five injuries over the time period, and include particularly busy areas such as Chapelfield and Heartsease Fiveways roundabouts.

In Earlham, the council has responded to concerns over the roundabout, with a £750,000 programme of work set to start in 2018/19

It will include shared pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, along with a bigger central island and narrowing of the lanes in a bid to slow traffic.

In the last five years there have been 13 accidents at the roundabout involving cyclists alone, with two seriously hurt.

A spokesperson for the county council said: 'We regularly review the junctions we'd most like to improve based on their accident rate and make sure we're able to respond swiftly to any potential funding, either from government or developers, by having feasibility studies and business cases ready to go.'

Work has taken place, or is planned, at several of the other junctions on the list - Ketts Hill has been identified for a local safety scheme, with a detailed design expected to be pulled together for 2019/20, while a study is currently ongoing at the Heartsease Fiveways.

The council said work at Magdalen Street would be considered as part of the Anglia Square regeneration bid, while a pedestrian and cycle crossing has been added at St Crispins roundabout.

Chapelfield roundabout has seen bus and cycle improvements in the last few years, they said, while a local safety improvement scheme was introduced at Christchurch Road and The Avenues this year.
