An arrest warrant for the man accused of the murder of a Norwich grandmother in Tenerife was issued last week, it has emerged.

English speaking newspaper Island Connections were told today by Arona security councillor Maunel Reveron that on May 10 a local court issued an arrest and detention order against 28-year-old Bulgarian Deyen Valentinov Deyanov.

According to the councillor the warrant was issued after the Bulgarian was alleged to have attacked someone in Los Cristianos.

However as the man had no known address the police did not locate and arrest him before Friday's horrific attack.

Asked whether police or any other group could be held guilty for the fact that the man was not in custody, Mr Reveron told Island Connections, said: 'We live in democratic society where we have to respect the rights of everyone'.

Jennifer Mills-Westley, who is originally from Hellesdon, was stabbed repeatedly in a Chinese supermarket in the resort of Los Cristianos in Tenerife on Friday.
