Ten fun family things to do this Easter weekend in and around Great Yarmouth

1. Easter egg hunt at Great Yarmouth's historic Venetian Waterways, Sunday April 16 11-2pm

Explore the garden attraction and celebrate a lottery windfall to restore it with an egg hunt being staged by tearoom owner Claire Owen. To take part buy a co-ordinates map from the tea room for £2 and search out all the hidden figures. Goody bag prize for each completed map.

2. Easter Baa-nanza at Hirsty's Family Fun Park, Hemsby

The attraction's first event of the season combines play fun with farm tours with a chance to feed lambs and see them being born. Families can have fun and get up close to farming – including learning about where their food comes from, and how farmers care for their livestock and the countryside. The most popular feature is a pile of haybales families can climb on. Adults £5, children 3-16 £8, under 2s free. Open 10-4pm.

3. Open day at the Berney Arms by the River Yare Friday to Sunday April 14-16

A hog roast and barbecue, as well as cafe, off-licence and meals are being laid on to those who make it to the out-of-the-way pub over the Easter weekend. The pub has been standing empty for some time and been broken into, vandalised and set on fire last year. There is no vehicular access to the inn. It can be reached on foot along Wherryman's Way and Weaver's Way; and by train. On Sunday there are four trains each way from Great Yarmouth and Norwich. There is plenty of mooring space for boats.

4. Easter egg hunt at Fairhaven Water Garden in South Walsham, Good Friday April 14

Hunt for the colourful eggs that will lead you to a chocolately prize, also face painting and Easter crafts. Usual admission plus £2 extra for the egg hunt, every child gets an egg.

5. Somerleyton Hall egg hunt, Friday to Monday April 14-17

Adults and children can join in the egg hunt from Good Friday to Easter Monday. The gardens will be open from 10am and will close at 5pm. Children will have an Easter Egg trail map to follow, helping them to find all of the colourful egg pictures in the garden. When they find the Easter Bunny he will stamp their trail map and they can go to the gift shop to claim an Easter Egg. Normal garden admission of £6.95 adult and £4.90 child, book online.

6. Easter egg-splorers family trail, Strumpshaw Fen, daily until Easter Monday

Drop in event, 10-5pm, promises whole family fun with an Easter trail around the beautiful Discovery Zone at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen. Find all the eggs and complete various wild challenges to earn a chocolately reward. Normal reserve prices apply – RSPB members free, Adults £3.50, children (5-17years) £1.50. One child per family goes free, £2 per trail sheet.

7. Easter Fundraising Open Day on Sunday at Fritton Owl Sanctuary

Plenty of low-tech games to keep youngsters busy as well as fundraising stalls and activities. As well as some 22 owls and around 13 visiting birds of prey there will be a free Easter egg hunt at 1pm. Woodcarver Luke Chapman will be carving an owl and auctioning one off during the day. Also face-painting, tractors, classic cars and Lowestoft signing choir. Event runs all day 10-4pm.

8. Reedham Passion Play, Good Friday, 12-3pm

A 100-strong team will bring the story of Easter to the streets of Reedham on Good Friday for the first time. The action takes place at five locations starting at the village hall. The audience can walk or take a free mini bus to follow the action which ends with the crucifixion at Ferry Farmyard at Station Road. The performance is free, donations to East Anglian Air Ambulance.

9. Great Yarmouth Town Centre

The Town Centre Partnership is hosting a range of fun events over the weekend with an Easter Bonnet workshop on Saturday 10-2pm in the Market Square with Jankie D. All materials are free and there will be prizes for the best following a social media vote. Meanwhile from Saturday to Monday there is a free to enter treasure trail involving searching for clues in town centre shop windows. Entry forms available from any of the shops and if you start at Sainsbury's you can get a vouncher for up to three-hours free parking. Completed trails must be returned by April 21 for entry into a prize draw to win a bundle of tickets and vouchers for local attractions.

10. Muffin's 30th birthday party, Redwings Caldecott, Sunday April 16, 11.30am

A special party is being staged for Muffin's birthday, marking 30 years' of living at Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Visitors will have the chance to enjoy cuddles with Muffin, join in a quiz trail and party games, and watch him tuck into his very own birthday cake.
