A 17-year-old student at an independent day and boarding school in Norfolk has been arrested after stabbing another pupil, it has emerged.

The teenager, a pupil at Langley School in Loddon, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after another 17-year-old-boy was left with serious wounds to his shoulder and elbow.

A police spokesman said officers from Great Yarmouth CID are investigating the incident which took place overnight between Sunday<7>and yesterday at the Langley Park-based school.

The victim, who has not been named but is also believed to be a pupil at the school, is currently receiving treatment at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where his condition is said to be in a 'stable condition'.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) said they were called at just before 10.30pm on Sunday with an ambulance on scene at just after 10.45pm.

He confirmed two teenagers were taken to hospital, one with a serious injury to his back, the other less serious to his arm. Neither was thought to be life-threatening.

Dominic Findlay, headmaster of the school said he could not comment on the incident at this stage as it was part of a police investigation.

He said: 'Both boys involved are part of an investigation and at this stage I can't comment.'

The EDP has been contacted by a parent of pupils at the school, who did not want to be named, who claimed they had been told they would be expelled if they talked about the stabbing.

But Mr Findlay dismissed suggestions that pupils would be expelled or excluded for talking about the incident as 'ridiculous' and 'complete rubbish'.

He said: 'All students have been informed of the incident by me in an assembly and all students have been spoken to. They've been offered support if required and that's as much as what's been said to the students.

'We've offered support to friends of the two students if they wanted to talk to staff about it and we've done that.'
