A Norfolk primary school has donated £900 to a charity for bereaved children after the unexpected loss of 'a much valued member' of their school community.
Headteacher Chris Aitken, 35, and teacher Lucy Daisley, 37, from Cantley Primary School completed the Greater Manchester marathon in April, to raise money for local charity Nelson's Journey.
The charity became close to the school's heart after a parent of two Cantley pupils passed away suddenly around Christmas. Mr Aitken described him as 'a genuinely decent man who is greatly missed by our whole school'.
Nelson's Journey offers support to children who have suffered a bereavement in Norfolk. According to the Childhood Bereavement Network, this year, 470 young people living in the county will lose a parent.
Mr Aitken and Mrs Daisley completed the marathon in five hours, raising around £1,800, of which just over half was donated to the charity, with the rest going to school funds.
