Cake tastes good whatever the weather and lemon drizzle would have been a particularly good offering at Saturday's rain-hit annual tea party on the platform of West Runton Station.
Although numbers were down this year, many visitors braved the showers to enjoy homemade goodies in the Bittern Line station's attractive surroundings, according to Jane Bothwell, one of the five-strong team of volunteer station adopters.
Profits raised by the event, which also included a tombola, book and other stalls, are ploughed back into plants and other items aimed at keeping the station environment looking good.
The station adapters have won several awards over the years for their contributions and have been shortlisted for this year's national Community Rail Awards in the Best Station Volunteers Project category. The winners will be announced on September 27.
Mrs Bothwell said team members gave time 'as and when we can' to maintain the station's garden with its pergola, flower planters and wildlife area. Ted Gadsden, chairman of the Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership, said the popular tea party, which has been taking place since 2004, attracted holidaymakers from all over the country who made a note of its date in their diaries each year.
He described the station adopter team's efforts as 'tremendous'.
