As forecasters predict another wet weekend Norfolk Fire Service is warning people to take extra precautions against flooding.

David Worsley, deputy fire chief for Norfolk, said: “If weather predictions are right we may miss the very worst of any further flooding this weekend. Having said that our rivers in Norfolk are already swollen and further rainfall may well give us problems which could create potential hazards for people.”

Advice issued by firefighters includes the following:

Do not drive or walk through flooded roads or fords;

Children should not play in flood water because this can become contaminated with sewerage and chemicals;

After coming into contact with flood water always wash your hands before smoking, eating or drinking;

If your home is flooded make sure all electrical circuits are fully dried out and checked by an electrical engineer before switching them back on.

John Law, a forecaster at UEA-based Weatherquest, said there will be patchy rain this morning although it should be dry during the middle part of the day. There could be heavy rain tonight moving into Sunday when it will still be unsettled with a chance of heavy showers and thunder.
