A young woman is gearing up to run the London marathon to raise funds for a charity close to her and her brother's hearts.

In April Clementine Ardley-Forder, from Stuston, will take part in the marathon in aid of the Children's Liver Disease Foundation.

As she runs the challenging 26 miles she will be thinking of her brother who is on the transplant list waiting for a new liver.

When he was 12, Gus Ardley-Forder was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, a disease of the liver, and this has slowly deteriorated the organ.

Now 21, Mr Ardley-Forder has been on the waiting list for over a year and a half and it is his attitude of 'just getting on with life' which is motivating his sister.

The self employed nanny and massage therapist will be raising money for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation when she pounds the streets of London.

The 23-year-old said: 'This means so much to me because I'm doing it for Gus and the charity. What Gus has had to go through in his life is massive and me running 26 miles is nothing.'

Having been put on the transplant list, Mr Ardley-Forder was not expected to complete university or have a job.

As a teaching assistant, he is waiting to do a course in secondary physical education in September.

He said: 'I try to live as normal a life as I can. But I have to go to Addenbrooke's Hospital and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital twice a month. I was able to go to university but it's tough as I have to be within three hours of Addenbrooke's Hospital so I can't go on holidays.'

The average wait for a new liver is six months but as he is still able to do things, Mr Ardley-Forder is not seen as a priority. He said: 'I haven't seen another person my age with this. There are more people on the list then liver donors. Things can go down hill quickly with this but I constantly keep busy because every phone call could be for the transplant.'

The pair are also hoping to raise awareness of the importance of registering as an organ donor.

Miss Ardley-Forder said: 'We want to get across that if it was your family you'd want to help. We've waited so long for Gus' transplant.'
