A double-decker bus which was stolen from outside First's depot in Caister Road, Yarmouth, was found abandoned minutes later in the town's Sandringham Avenue after it had collided with a parked Ford Mondeo.

The drama unfolded at 4am on Sunday at the time of a shift change, which meant there were few employees about and none that saw the theft.

After the thief jumped off the bus, one of a number controversially imported from Hong-Kong last year, it apparently rolled backwards and knocked over a garden wall.

The company is today checking its CCTV footage to see if it can help police track down the culprit who ran off after the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call Yarmouth CID on 0845-4564567.
