Time is running out for local groups, businesses and cultural organisations to get involved with the carnival fun of the Lord Mayor's Celebrations procession.

This year's Lord Mayor's street procession is being held on Saturday, July 7, winding its way from St Stephen's Road from 5pm, down to Whitefriars by 7.30pm.

There will be thousands of people lining the streets for the annual procession which this year has an Olympic theme to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Local groups which have already entered a float include the Maddermarket Theatre, Down's Syndrome Norfolk, Peapod Pre-school, City Academy and the Yvonne Cutting School of Dance .

The Sportspark at the University of East Anglia, working with Active Norfolk, are aiming to provide a strong Olympic and sporting appeal to their float. Maria Rowe, assistant director of sport at Sportspark, said: 'We are really excited to be taking part in the Lord Mayor's procession with it being such a special sporting year. Our entry will show how many Olympic sports can be played locally.'

Norwich City Council leader Brenda Arthur said: 'The procession is a fantastic event with a real community atmosphere. It really brings the city together.'

The closing date for procession entries is June 12. For more information on the procession and how to enter, go to www.norwich.gov.uk, call 01603 212136 or email events@norwich.gov.uk
