A driver from Sprowston will jump out of a plane wearing nothing but his birthday suit to raise 1,000 for a meningitis charity in memory of his friend, Ryan Sweatman, who died this year.

Anthony Allen, 22, from Lowry Cole Road, said he has learnt the true meaning of 'think before you speak' after a joke turned into a major fundraising event for Meningitis Research Foundation.

The charity supported the Sweatman family since the former Broadland High School student's death in his sleep in January.

With a plan to jump from 10,000ft at Beccles Heliport, Mr Allen said: 'I'm not thinking about it – I'm just going to do it in the hope that the money I make will go towards helping raise awareness of this disease and prevent other families being affected. I'm doing this for a good cause and I'm all ready to go.'

He added: 'Ryan would be laughing his head off at this.'

The pair knew each other for 17 years.

Chris Head, chief executive of the charity, is thankful for Mr Allen's bravery, saying: 'We rely on voluntary donations to fund our vital work into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia.

'Every penny raised through his tandem parachute jump will make a huge difference and enable us to continue our work.'
