Cromer is appealing for help to outdo its sister resort Sheringham's 'Stand on the Sand' charity stunt.

Organisers of Cromer Carnival want hundreds to turn up at the town's east beach on Thursday, August 14, at 4.30pm for an aerial photograph, and to raise money for a planned skatepark.

Stand on the Sand is the brainchild of Stuart McClean, chairman of Sheringham Carnival, and more than 300 people turned up on Sheringham beach for the stunt last month, helping raise money for portable defibrillators to be used around the resort.

Now Mr McClean has thrown down a similar challenge to Cromer.

Cromer Carnival chairman Tony Shipp said: 'We look forward to welcoming everyone on to Cromer's East Beach when we will be taking an aerial photo of all those gathered.

'It's a fantastic event for the whole community to get behind and keeps the friendly rivalry with Sheringham Carnival going strong, and hopefully we will boost the funds of the skatepark who are getting close to their final fundraising target.'

Supporters of Cromer Skatepark are aiming to raise £150,000 for the new facility, planned for The Meadow, Cromer. Cromer Carnival committee members will have buckets out on the day with any monies raised going towards Cromer Skatepark.

Each year a percentage of all bucket takings from the collection made at the Carnival parade is donated to a local cause, and this summer the Cromer skatepark has been chosen to receive the cash.

Thursday's stunt will follow the Paint a Stone competition, part of the carnival's children's weeks which got underway last week.
