The event took place on Monday, March 14 at 10am and saw Southwold Town Mayor Cllr Melanie Tucker reading the Commonwealth Affirmation along with a special message from Commonwealth secretary general Kamalesh Sharma.

The theme of this year's Commonwealth Day was 'An Inclusive Commonwealth' and Secretary General Sharma's message spoke of the values of the Commonwealth Charter asserting everyone is equal no matter age, gender, ethnicity, beliefs or financial background.

A group of fifteen spectators applauded and cheered as Cllr Will Windell and Cllr Ian Bradbury raised the Commonwealth Flag at the town hall.
