Six motorists were ordered to repair vehicle defects before they were allowed to continue their journey during a crackdown on dangerous vehicles in North Walsham.

The two-hour operation, on the A149 Cromer Road last Wednesday, February 16, was carried out by officers from North Walsham Safer Neighbourhood Team working with the Vehicle and Operating Services Agency (VOSA).

A number of vehicles were stopped between 11am-1pm, resulting in six immediate prohibition orders being issued by VOSA. The orders meant that the vehicles were not allowed to be driven until the defects had been put right.

Police also issued a fixed penalty notice to one driver for an obscured number plate and VOSA issued one inspection notice.

Sergeant Kersty Brooks said: 'Working with our partner agencies on operations such as this provide us with an ideal opportunity to target dangerous vehicles and reassure members of the public that we will not tolerate illegal or inconsiderate motorists.

'We are planning similar operations in the future to further reinforce our message that we take a zero tolerance approach'.
