Homeowners in and around Holt are being reminded to keep their gardens and sheds secure following thefts in the area.

The most recently reported thefts happened in Woodrow Avenue and Coronation Road in Holt and Pecks Lane in Melton Constable where thieves stole a bicycle stored in an unlocked outbuilding as well as metal chairs and a washing dryer left in a garden.

Police Community Support Officer Guy Slade said: "As we approach the summer months, people are spending more time outside using their garden furniture and bicycles.

"Please take steps to deter passing thieves by ensuring unattended items are stored away inside locked sheds".

Police are also encouraging homeowners to ensure sheds are locked when not in use, consider covering windows so thieves cannot peer in and marking belongings which will make them less attractive to steal and make it more difficult for them to be sold on.

Anyone who witnesses someone acting suspiciously in gardens or around properties during the day or after dark should call police on 999, if they believe a crime is in progress, or 0845 456 4567.
