Levi Phillips was cycling home last Friday evening when he was hit by a car which he said mounted the kerb, smashing into his front wheel.

The nine-year-old lost consciousness in the collision and was taken to West Suffolk Hospital's A&E by ambulance.

Levi, who goes to Norwich Road Community Primary School, was cycling along the pavement on Durham Way to his home on Edinburgh Way on the Abbey estate at around 8pm on Friday, June 14.

He said: 'The car zoomed down the road and on to the pavement and it hit the front wheel and my face went into the door and I blacked out.'

Young Levi came to and he said the driver had stopped and asked him if he was okay.

Levi said he was not well, but the man got back into his car and drove off.

A neighbour, who saw the car drive off, then came to Levi's aid and got him back home where his mother Anita Da Grace called NHS Direct.

They told her to get an ambulance and the police were also called.

Officers visited the family last Saturday.

Levi was taken by ambulance to the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds where he was treated.

His mother said he had two black eyes from a blow to his nose where he hit the car door and he also had bruising.

Levi's bicycle, meanwhile, which belonged to his brother, had its front wheel bent.

His mother said: 'It was broad daylight so I don't know how he [the driver] didn't see him.'

The neighbour described the car as a silver BMW and Levi said the man was wearing a black suit with a white shirt, black shoes and white socks.

His father Simon Phillips said he was angered by the driver's behaviour. 'You don't run off when you hit a child,' he said.

Police are appealing for the driver to come forward. Anyone with information should contact Thetford Police on 101.
