An organisation set up to protect a green space in Wymondham has decided to wind down and is looking to hand out £3,500 of its donation funds.

Wymondham Asks Why (WAW) was created in November 2011 as a result of fears King's Head Meadow might be sold for development as an Asda supermarket.

When WAW began donations were quickly received to create a fighting fund and a committee was established.

After a campaign the supermarket plans were dropped and WAW continued to monitor the situation.

Then in January Wymondham Town Football Club completed a new 25-year lease for the land following negotiations with Wymondham Town Council.

Due to that arrangement WAW has decided to wind itself up.

WAW chairman Paul Hawkins said: 'We have the marvellous support from the public to thank in enabling the meadow to be preserved as a green open space for the future and we congratulate the council and the club on reaching a successful conclusion to their efforts.'

In accordance with its constitution WAW has offered to return part of the contributions of the largest donors. Suggestions are invited as to how the balance of about £3,500 might be used. Suggestions should be emailed to shouldthemeadowbekeptgreen@gmail.com
