A main road running through Oulton Broad is open to traffic in both directions following three weeks of work on ageing gas mains.
A partial road closure has been in place in Bridge Road while work was carried out to replace old iron gas mains with more durable plastic pipes.
And in a statement on Friday, Cadent said the road would have to be closed again for a further 12 days to allow connection work to take place.
However Bridge Road is back open to northbound and southbound traffic as usual, with work being carried out only in the central lane by the Shell petrol garage.
The work means a small diversion for southbound drivers wishing to access Holly Road, which is signposted from the roundabout.
Andrew Page, an Oulton Broad parish councillor and owner of The Gift Shop in Bridge Road, said: 'We want to make it clear that Bridge Road is open to traffic in both directions and you can still access all the businesses as normal. The only closure is the Holly Road junction.
'Bridge Road is open and will be staying open.
'They have got extra work to do which has resulted in another two weeks, but we said the road had to be reopened on time.'
Mr Page added: 'I've had a mixed reaction speaking to businesses about how the works affected them this time. Some people said it was a lot harder and some people said it was better.'
The work originally started in the spring, with the second phase being carried out from October 23 to Friday, November 10.
A Cadent spokesman said: 'We've been carrying out essential gas mains replacement work in Bridge Road to help ensure local residents keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.
'To alleviate traffic issues we agreed with the local authority to complete that section of work before beginning the final connection work for the project which will require us to dig an approximately 30m open cut excavation. This will necessitate a lane closure and a diversion will be in place.'
The work will end on Friday, November 24.
