A warning has been issued to boat users that swing bridges at Oulton, Somerleyton and Reedham will be closed until 7pm this evening (Monday) because of the hot weather.
Network Rail have informed the Broads Authority that 'all swing bridges will be closed to river traffic until 7pm due to extreme temperatures.'
Mariners are also being advised that temporary restrictions are also in place at Lowestoft's Bascule Bridge this afternoon. Associated British Ports (ABP) Lowestoft has issued a 'temporary restriction to Lowestoft Bascule Bridge on June 19,' meaning that the bridge is not lifting for boats until 8pm tonight (Monday).
It comes after the bridge was closed for an hour yesterday as the high temperatures and 'extreme summer heat' caused it to get stuck.
In the temporary restriction notice issued to mariners, ABP stated: 'Mariners and port users are advised that it is likely that the operation of Lowestoft Bascule Bridge will need to be temporarily suspended during the afternoon and early evening today, provisionally between noon and 8pm. This is due to the extreme heat that is affecting bridge components and bridge operation.'
