David Bartram, history teacher at Attleborough Academy Norfolk, died in October last year, prompting hundreds of colleagues and pupils past and present to pay emotional tributes.

An impromptu gathering, organised online by pupils, saw dozens lay flowers, cards and balloons.

This summer, the academy will be hosting a summer fete in his memory, where the humanities block will be renamed the David Bartram Building and students and staff will take part in a mass balloon release.

Neil McShane, principal, said: 'David will be forever remembered and greatly missed. This fete will be part of our on-going healing process as we come together as a community in his honour and pay tribute to him and all he meant to us.

'You never get over losing someone as special as David, you just learn to live with the fact he has gone and be thankful you knew him.

'You can remember him and only that he is gone or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.'

The event, which will be held on Saturday, June 27, has been organised by students who created a charity committee and came up with the best way to honour him.

All money raised will be donated to the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the British Heart Foundation, causes chosen by Mr Bartram's family.

Students will design games and activities for the fete and craft items for sale.

Stalls and music and dance events are also being organised, with afternoon tea, a barbecue and a cake sale planned to boost donations.

Mr Bartram, who was in his 40s, moved to the academy in 2008 from Wymondham High Academy.

He was described as 'the nicest man', with former students saying he inspired them to take up a career in teaching.

The event will take place from 11am to 3pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
