A recruitment day for anyone interested in becoming a retained firefighter in Stalham is taking place tomorrow, Saturday January 28.

The event, at Stalham Fire Station, on Lower Staithe Road, from 10am to 1pm, will give men and women the chance to find out more about the role.

The fire service stresses that there are currently no vacancies for full-time crew but anyone living of working within five minutes of the station who is interested in an on-call post is welcome to go along and find out more. The role includes a high standard of training and a small wage.

The day is also open for employers who may be able to allow staff to respond and would like to understand the impact it may have on their business.

Currently Stalham has nine on-call male and female firefighters who provide fire cover from their homes and place of work 24 hours a day, On average they are paged to attend around 150–200 calls per year, ranging from fires, road accidents or chemical incidents.
