A 48-year-old man who admitted two rapes and a string of child sex offences was today jailed for 10 years.

Norwich Crown Court heard Simon Austing coerced a girl under 16 into performing sex acts, which he videoed.

Austing, of West Hall Road, Dersingham, admitted six offences of gross indecency with a girl under 16, dating back to 1998, and two charges of raping a different girl under 16.

Nick Methold, prosecuting, read part of one of the the girls' statements to police, in which she said Austing told her not to talk about what had happened. She said after she told police, she felt a dark cloud had been lifted from her shoulders.

Thomas Brown, defending Austing, said the only mitigation was that in admitting the offences, he had spared the girls the ordeal of giving evidence in court.

Jailing him for 10 years, Judge Peter Jacobs said it was “a disturbing case” and the offences were aggravated by a background of coercion and pressure put on the victims not to reveal what had happened.

Austing must register as a sex offender on his release and will be banned from ever working with children.
