From the White Witch's sleigh to vintage costumes, an array of theatrical delights and more are set to go under the hammer next month.

The Maddermarket Theatre in Norwich is hosting an auction of props, costumes and curiosities on February 5 to raise funds for new sound equipment.

The complete list of auction lots is still to be decided, but among the items people will be able to buy are props from the theatre's recent Christmas show, The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, which transported audiences into the magical world of Narnia.

People will be able to bid for everything from the White Witch's sleigh to some leopard puppets to Mr Tumnus' rocking chair.

There will also be memorabilia from other shows - including the wind machine used in The Ghost Train and a painting of Murder on the Nile - as well as vintage costumes and sound and lighting equipment that the theatre no longer uses. The auction will be run by auctioneers TW Gaze.

Peter Beck, one of the theatre's creative directors, said the money raised would help the theatre update its technical equipment.

'The Maddermarket Theatre is a very busy theatre with performances, rehearsal and events taking place often every day of the week, all happening in a beautiful historic building which from time to time needs maintenance work and alterations,' he said.

'Our technical equipment needs regularly updating as new technologies develop, and so we are currently looking to improve our sound equipment specifically. In this auction we hope to raise money towards this goal, while at the same time auctioning items that we no longer use and that we don't have the space to store. Many items will only ever be used once in a production and so it doesn't make sense to keep it in storage, and so selling items helps us with our budgets for props for current productions.'

The auction is at the Maddermarket Theatre on Friday, February 5 at 7:30pm. Tickets £5. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.maddermarket.co.uk or call the box office on 01603 620917.
