A green energy giant which hopes to build a massive wind farm off the north Norfolk coast is planning a further series of public events in communities which may be affected by the scheme.

If developed to full capacity, Dong Energy's Hornsea Project Three could become the world's largest offshore windfarm, generating enough electricity to power more than two million homes, according to the firm.

Cables from the project would come ashore on the north Norfolk coast and be laid underground to the Norwich Main electricity substation, next to Dunston Hall. It would also need a new substation to be built in the vicinity.

Denmark-based Dong Energy held a first round of public consultation events in October and November last year, attended by more than 170 people.

It has used feedback from those events, and the results of ecological surveys, to refine its original scoping area to a 200m-wide corridor. This year Dong hopes to narrow it further to a width of 80m.

The firm's next consultation sessions will be held in Reepham, Weybourne, Norwich, Weston Longville, Corpusty, Holt and Swardeston Common.

If successful in its bid, Dong's scheme would be built more than 120km off Trimingham, and would not visible from the Norfolk shore.

Stuart Livesey, Hornsea Project Three Project development manager, said: 'The project proposal continues to mature and the area of consultation has been refined, so we've organised these extra events to share the updated plans and give people a further chance to comment.

'We have been working closely with stakeholders such as local landowners to understand their views on the project, and want to emphasise that at this stage the consultation is still very much ongoing, and no final decisions have been made.

'Understanding which areas are most important for the local community is key, and the feedback gathered at these consultation events will help us to shape our proposal going forward'.

The consultation sessions, all in March, will be: Thursday 2, 1.30pm-5.30pm, Reepham Town Hall; Friday 3, 3pm-7pm, Weybourne Village Hall; Monday 6, 1pm-5pm, The King's Centre, King Street, Norwich; Tuesday 7, 3pm-7pm, Hall for All, Church Street, Weston Longville; Wednesday 8, 3pm-7pm, Corpusty and Saxthorpe Village Hall; Thursday 9, 4pm-8pm, Holt Community Centre; Friday 10, 2pm-6pm, Swardeston Social Club and Village Hall.
