This year's Wayland Agricultural Show will be 'bigger and better' than ever before, orgainsers have promised.

The family event on Brandon Road, Watton, is in its 139th year and is taking place this Sunday from 10am.

It is expected to attract between 8,000 and 10,000 people.

From scarecrow and baking competitions, to the popular Champion of Champions contest, the day has something for everyone.

Graham Shingfield, chairman of the Wayland Show committee, said: 'We are a traditional country family show and are trying to make it better every year.

'We are looking forward to it and are expecting it to be bigger and better than previous years. We are hoping for some nice weather in the run up to it.'

For the first time in its history, the East Anglian Sheep Dog Trials will be taking place at the Wayland Show.

Visitors will also be able to watch chefs Roger Hickman and John Gay battling it out in the kitchen during the cooking challenge.

This event is due to start from 11am in the lifestyle marquee.

Simon Blackwell, of Watton, who was a contestant in on the BBC television programme The Great British Bake Off last year, will also be doing a cooking demonstration in the lifestyle marquee.

Mr Blackwell, who now runs Simple Pies, will be making pizza on the day, which visitors can try and he will be given a cookery challenge. This will also take place from 11am.

Children can enter the scarecrow competition, which has been split into two categories – a member of royalty or an Olympic athlete.

Entries should be taken to the horticulture marquee by 8.30am on the morning of the show.

In the main ring, entertainment will be provided by Meirion Owen and the Quack Pack – a comical duck-herding demonstration.

Dangerous quadbike stunts will also be performed by former world champion motocross rider Jason Smyth on his Adrenaline Tour.

The day will culminate with the grand parade in the main ring and Champion of Champions competition at 4pm.

A young achiever award will also be given out to a Norfolk resident aged under 21 who has shown dedication to agriculture, horticulture, wildlife or any other rural-related industry.

Proceeds from the show will go toward local charities. Visit www.waylandshow.com
