A court will tomorrow be asked to grant an order which will force a group of Travellers to leave a park and ride site on the edge of Norwich.

The Travellers have been at the Costessey Park and Ride site since last Tuesday. But Norfolk County Council is to ask Norwich Magistrates Court to issue an order which would enable the council to evict them.

If granted, it would mean the group, along with their vehicles, would have to leave the site by the end of Wednesday, under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

Costessey Park and Ride site was previously occupied by Travellers in May. The past few weeks have also seen Travellers using Harford and Thickthorn Park and Ride sites.

They have also been camped at Bawburgh Parish Village Hall and on land opposite Next at Longwater, prompting calls for more traveller sites to be provided across Norfolk to reduce unauthorised encampments.
