Officers had been unable to identify the man after the collision in Rose Lane near to the UK Fire premises and The Loft nightclub in Norwich just after 2.30am on Sunday.
He has now been named as 27-year-old Mohammed Malik Mansoor, of Sri Lanka. He remains at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where his condition is critical. Officers would now like friends or colleagues of Mr Mansoor to come forward to help with their investigation.
The second man, who has been identified and is in his late 20s, is still being treated at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for a serious leg injury.
A red Vauxhall Vectra collided with two victims after it mounted the pavement. The vehicle failed to stop at the scene, leaving the injured parties lying on the ground badly hurt.
