A man brandishing a 'samurai sword' in the centre of a Norfolk town has been arrested by police.

Officers from Norfolk Police were called to Napoleon Place in Great Yarmouth at around 4.30pm yesterday after a member of the public rang 999.

On social networking website Twitter, Great Yarmouth Police said they arrested a male for carrying a samurai sword in a public place.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police confirmed the man was arrested for possession of a blade article in a public place.

They were unable to confirm if the man remained in custody today.
